The Man
The man in red
The man that took little Ted
Then man that killed Bill
The man that won’t stop until
The man that fears no pain
The man that tricks us into playing a game
The man that has no feelings
The man that has a pile of peelings
The man that likes to kill
The man that has one skill
The man that lacks a heart
The man that destroys art
The man that uses gas
The man that accepts only one pass
The man that can’t cry
The man that never tries
The man that leads to hurt
The man that feels no dirt
The man that leads to guns
The man that makes us all run
The man in red
The man that took little Ted
Then man that killed Bill
The man that won’t stop until
The man that fears no pain
The man that tricks us into playing a game
The man that has no feelings
The man that has a pile of peelings

Dear Mom,
Today I went to the battle of the Marne and guess what? They appointed me commander-in-chief because I helped the soldiers win the battle. When our commander was about to fire at the enemy, I went and pulled out my gun and shot the guy off his horse. I saved my commander’s life and when he realized he was alive because of me he said that I could be commander in chief. I was so excited that he let me be able to be the commander in chief. I don’t know what I’m going to do for the soldiers to do for the next war we’re going to do.
I think I’m going to have the soldiers attack on the Germans. If you haven’t noticed Mom, we hate the Germans. I know that our countries hate each other as well and that’s why we’re going against them in the war. Instead of that, we’ve gone to battle with them more than the other countries but you should see us when we hear we have to fight the Germans. One night while we were training for one of our battles, we were told we were going to go against the Germans every soldier’s faced turned red and they wanted not to fight them anymore. After a while it’s gets very boring for us to have to keep fighting them over and over again.
We’ve lost some battles and we also won some, but having to fight the same people over and over again gets nerve wrecking. Of course we’re supposed to be the one to walk out with our heads held high to go out and win those battles. Actually to be honest with you, I’m pretty ready to come back home. Usually I’m complaining about how ready I was to go out and do something productive. Thing is at this war, I’ve seen men die in front of my eyes but also in my arms. I’ve lost at least three friends being here because they were wounded so badly and wasn’t able to make it. I love you mom, and I hope to make it home to you too.
Sincerely Joseph

Dear Journal,
It was a long day today. Instead of walking up every morning to just train for the war we had call in today. Do you know what that means? It means I’m up for battle. The commander told us that we have a battle at the frontiers tonight. I’m pretty terrified honestly. The German has a strong army I’ve been told, so having to go against them is very scary. We want to do a sneak attack against the Germans, but just thinking of going into their territory gives me the chills. They’re not cold chills at that either but they’re more chills as if I’m nervous. I know you win some and you lose some, but World War I means a big thing to France. I haven’t talked to mom in a while, but then again I haven’t received any feedback from her. I hope she got it, I miss her. Waking up every morning and not seeing her face is heartaching. I’m used to her making her infamous cooking that just fills the house. Instead I wake up smelling gun smoke and horses neighing outside my room.
